Spirit Contact

I believe many spiritual experiences can be labeled peak or mystical. And that includes contact with spirit, whether spontaneous or by choice. Any contact or communication can be awe-inspiring, confirming, healing, unifying. Realizing that one is not alone and that there is a connection to the Divine is empowering.  Accepting that we are all spiritual beings, whether in the physical body as a spiritual being, or on the other side as a spiritual being – we are all one and the same.

When we begin to acknowledge that we are connected to one another, to the Divine, we have laid the groundwork to sharpen our higher spiritual sense. We are powerful transmitters and receivers. If we learn to think of spirit communication as an exchange of energy, a radio signal, or an open telephone line, it becomes a normal event, and there is nothing paranormal about it. I personally like Joseph Campbell’s explanation of a peak experience as the moments in our lives when we experience our “relationship to the harmony of being.”

To Dance With Angels

RIP: Louise L. Hay

Author, publisher, healer, metaphysical counselor, Louise L. Hay, passed away this morning at the age of 90.  I've had this 1984 book of Louise Hay's since 1987, at that time 19th printing with over 400,000 copies sold.  It's a classic best-seller and now 50 million copies have been sold.  In 1985, she began her support group for AIDs patients.  In 1987, she founded her publishing company, Hay House, which has grown into a very successful publishing company which has sold millions of books and products, featuring many well-known authors of works on healing, self-help, and inspiration.  Hay House has offices in California, New York, London, Sydney, Johannesburg, and New Delhi.

Don and I meet her once, and twice heard her speak.  She was inspirational and her affirmations have been helpful to many in grief, illness, and life's ups and downs.  She leaves with us quite a legacy.

In about 1850, Spiritualism reached a high interest and continued for a number of years, not only in America, but world-wide. The poets, philosophers, artists, politicians of the time, along with the ordinary man and woman, in surprising numbers came to accept spirit communication as a comforting and fulfilling life experience.

Many historical figures considered themselves Spiritualist, some more openly than others. One of our greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln communicated with spirit on the Other Side through mediums and referred to spirit as “our friends from the upper country.” It has often been said his writings and speeches were inspired by spirit, especially his Emancipation Proclamation.

The veil between worlds continues to grow thinner, communication is increasing, and part of the increase in communication may be a result of fear being released, and openness prevailing. Curiosity, yes, but probably more than that when intuition is allowed to have a role in everyday life.

Harriet Beecher Stowe and her Vision

 Harriet Beecher Stowe, (1811-1896), American Author, Abolitionist 

Supernormal powers do not always connote formal mediumship or spectacular displays.  Harriet Beecher Stowe once remarked that Uncle Tom's Cabin was "given to her–it passed in vision before her.  She had to tell it as it came, and suffered in so doing."  She had also attested to her belief in spiritual forces.  She wrote, "One of the deepest and most imperative cravings of the human heart, as it follows its beloved ones beyond the veil, is for some assurance that they still love and care for us. They have overcome, have risen, are crowned, glorified; but still they remain to us, our assistants, our comforters, and in every hour of darkness their voice speaks to us."

This is a wonderful interview of psychic medium, John Edward by Fern Ronay.  It's a long interview, but very enjoyable.  I just listened to it again.  I believe I have posted previously on my blog, but that's okay.

Taylor Caldwell and her Writing

I had pulled the Jess Stearn book, The Search for a Soul: Taylor Caldwell's Psychic Lives, (1973) from my book shelf a bit ago, as I had done a FB post about author, Taylor Caldwell.  In Stearn's book, I had to smile and appreciate this, especially as a native Californian.  In a discussion with Caldwell, he asked her if she wanted to be hypnotized. She answered, "If anybody can manage it."  He said, "If they can’t do it in California, it can't be done anywhere."  She replied, "And why California, pray?"  With laughter, he said, "The atmosphere is so electric out there that even the people think they're spirits."

Taylor Caldwell's writing intrigues me. I'll always remember a TV interview she did back in the late 1950s, in which she spoke of not knowing where her ideas came from and that she felt as if she was doing "automatic" typing, as if a "Presence" (what she called it) guided her fingers. She often claimed that she had no idea how the facts within her books came to her. It was especially evident in her book, Dear and Glorious Physician, Later in a book by Jess Stearn, she talked of the "Presence," who communicated with her. She was also known to be psychic. That TV interview, which I watched with my Dad, has always stuck with me--it fascinated me then, and now. Part of the reason may be that I've always believed in past lives, and contact with the other side, and having some psychic ability myself, makes it easier to understand.

Touched by Psychic Edgar Cayce

Many years ago, I read the Edgar Cayce book, There is a River, the Story of Edgar Cayce by Thomas Sugrue, which, for me was probably life changing, offering new perspectives on life and death.

I’m not sure what year I first read the book, maybe late 1950’s. It is very possible my father had it in his paperback collection when I was in junior high or high school. If I did not read it then, it would have been not long after.

Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D., best-selling author, and in the past a frequent guest on Oprah, had this to say about Cayce: "The story of Edgar Cayce has inspired me from the time I was 12 years old. As one of the first well-studied medical intuitives, his work and his life helped blaze the path for the future of medicine."

Cayce also helped blaze the path for spiritual understanding and awareness. I have discovered that There is a River, has been life-changing for many people.   I’ve heard time and again from friends, acquaintances, and from fan mail, how they felt so inspired by the book, and that it put them on a spiritual journey to new discoveries about life.  

As my husband, Don Pendleton and I, wrote in our book, Whispers From the Soul, the Divine Dance of Consciousness, in regards to Edgar Cayce: “Whatever the source of Edgar Cayce's spectacular gifts, they have provided new windows through which ordinary people may perceive reality and often transform their lives. We all are richer because of Edgar Cayce.”

Using Your Intuition for Well-being

Within our bodies we have a vast communication network.  It has been long understood that the brain communicates with the body but recent medical research is now showing that messenger molecules, the route through which intelligence moves through the body, are intimately linked to every cell and that a never-ending stream of information in both directions is moving between the mind and body.  

Our emotions must be regarded as both physical and mental when we understand that there is intelligence, or mind, in every cell of the body.

Every thought, emotion, image, memory, and deed, effects the totality of our being, moment by moment.  Within us lies the intelligence of not only mind but body and soul, and we have the power to consciously influence facets of that trinity. 

Your natural intuition can help you to know how your body is and what it would like you to know. Do you listen to what your body is telling you?  Do you ask it what you should know?  Are you aware of the energy flow within your body? 

The most meaningful and powerful medicine you can receive is to allow your inner intelligence to speak to you, and to listen.

Spiritual Psychology of Dr. James Martin Peebles

Orbs in my Grandfather's One-Room Schoolhouse

This is the interior of an old barn that was once a one room schoolhouse in Gilbert, Iowa.  The school had originally been on my great-grandparents farm land in Gilbert, Iowa.  My grandfather, Arthur, and his older brother, Roy, attended school there in about 1894-1899.  The schoolhouse was moved across the highway at some point in those early years and became a barn when school was moved into town.  The photos were taken for me in recent years by a couple who lived nearby in Gilbert and offered to send me photos.  As you see, orbs fill the photo.  Could it be that my ancestors are visiting the one room schoolhouse?--And maybe they purposely (personally) made their presence visible for me?
