Consulting Spirit, A Doctor's Experience with Practical Mediumship

I love when science and spirituality marry. Last night I listened to a general practice physician from the U.K., Dr. Ian Rubenstein, as a guest on Coast to Coast AM Radio Show. As a primary care physician, he now integrates his mediumship into his medical practice. He has a new book, Consulting Spirit, A Doctor's Experience with Practical Mediumship. It is available in print and Kindle at Amazon.

What I noticed during the interview, was his healthy skepticism and his curiosity as he began to receive messages from the other side, and even see apparitions. Those experiences, and messages relayed to him through other mediums, began his journey of exploration of the paranormal.

From his website: “"Consulting Spirit" is the true story of a GP (primary care physician) who was drawn into the world of spirit mediumship and started receiving messages from his patients' deceased relatives.”

He apparently is able to use his mediumship for comfort and healing of patients. His book is for anyone interested in spirit communication, spirit guides, and spiritual enrichment, and I look forward to reading his book.

The Bridge Across

Margaret, an elderly woman who has since passed on, was an extended family member. Her entire family had always been very active within the Catholic Church – one sister was a nun, a brother engaged in missionary work and she herself was a very devout Catholic. She related an experience involving her mother on her deathbed. After sitting beside her mother for hours, praying and reciting the rosary, Margaret had moved to sit at the foot of the bed and shortly thereafter, her mother died. At that moment, she experienced a strong aroma of roses in the room and she was startled to discover, along with the rosary clasped in her hand, were her mother's wedding rings. She never understood how those rings got into her hand but she accepted it as a Divine experience.

I’m not sure I can explain how the wedding rings ended in Margaret's hand with the rosary, except by Divine intervention. The fragrant aroma such as that of roses, or other strong, familiar scents is a common experience which many have. Often the loved one’s favorite perfume, after-shave, or flowers may fill the room.

Twenty-Four Years Later, To Dance With Angels

"This great book correlates with all that I have learned in my own longtime studies of life and death. It should be read by all who wonder about the magic of life. It is powerful, it is beautiful, and it rings with truth. I loved it!"—Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D.,Famed Thanatologist and Author of On Death and Dying

A new edition of our book, To Dance With Angels, is now in Kindle and in print. I have written an Introduction for this new edition. The book was first published in hardcover in 1990, then in tradepaper, paperback, and again in tradepaper. I regained my rights recently, and this is the new edition, twenty-four years after we first wrote the book.

Twenty-four Years LaterIt is often difficult for me to realize that it has been twenty-one years since To Dance With Angels was first published. Our book was written in 1987 and we celebrated the hardcover publication in August of 1990.

Over these nearly twenty-five years, some things have changed, some have not. Life is never static, although we often think of it in that way. Time moves on, and change takes place. The wise Dr. Peebles, who you will learn a lot about in our book, often told us from his home on the spirit side that change is inevitable and much of the pain we experience in life may be because we resist change instead of embracing it and allowing ourselves to flow with it. He also tells us that embracing change is what spiritual growth is all about.

I write this now with my husband, Don Pendleton no longer at my side in a physical sense, but still very much a part of my life. Don passed on to the other side in October, 1995. He now dances alongside Dr. Peebles, and I’m sure they often get together and kick up their heels in joy! My connection to Don has not been broken. I am even more convinced than ever that consciousness survives the shedding of the physical body.

Thomas Jacobson retired from his spiritual work with Dr. Peebles a few years ago, but two of his students, Summer Bacon and Athena Demetrios have each, for a number of years, carried on Dr. Peebles’ communication with us here on this side of the veil through their channeling and mediumship. We wrote about both Summer and Athena in our book.

James Martin Peebles was born in Vermont in 1822, and died in Los Angeles, days short of his one-hundredth birthday. While writing about Dr. Peebles’ spiritual psychology I became fascinated with his terrestrial life. He was a teacher, clergyman, physician, prolific author, world traveler and lecturer, a leader in the worldwide Spiritualist movement of the 19th century and was himself, a medium. Throughout his life he was surrounded by what he called his "band of angels," and often received communication, inspiration, and guidance from them.

He was active in anti-slavery, temperance, and women's suffrage movements; a member of the American Indian Peace Commission; a delegate to several international peace commissions; and was appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant to serve as Consul to Turkey in 1869.

In 2000, I published Three Principles of Angelic Wisdom, a follow-up to this book. The e-book edition of Three Principles of Angelic Wisdom was chosen as an EPPIE Nonfiction Finalist in 2002, awarded for excellence in electronic books. I enjoyed writing the book with Dr. Peebles and having the opportunity to delve more into his terrestrial life and the parallels between his long life on Earth and his life now on the other side.

The response we have received from readers of To Dance With Angels over the years has been very heartwarming. Apparently, for many, not only was the book inspirational, but also life-changing.

Enjoy the angelic wit, wisdom, and love of Dr. James Martin Peebles as the veil between worlds is parted within these pages. The book is structured around in-depth interviews with this grand spirit through the mediumship of Thomas Jacobson, hailed as “the clearest window to the other side.” These frequently startling, always entertaining and illuminating conversations touch upon every facet of human (and non-human) experience as Dr. Peebles freely and candidly regales the reader with his thoughts on birth and death; heaven and hell; past and future lives; ghosts and guardian angels; love and sexuality; cosmic realties...and that is only the beginning.

Our contact with Dr. Peebles through the mediumship of Thomas Jacobson was life-changing for both of us. As writers and researchers of many areas of the paranormal, our studies into near-death experiences (Don had two of his own), past life regression, spirit communication, miracles, angel encounters, was invaluable. Don and I both looked at life in a somewhat different way as a result. The magic and beauty that we both believed life held, was intensified by our new discoveries.

As we wrote more than two decades ago, “This was a book that had to be written as we could not keep this information to ourselves.”

I am pleased to be able to continue to share our book in this print edition, along with an e-book edition.

It is my hope that To Dance With Angels will be considered a classic in spiritual literature for generations to come.

Enjoy the dance!

Meditation and Communication

We all have spirit guides who work closely with us. Meditation is the opportune time for you to communicate, through visual or auditory efforts. Within the slightly altered state of meditation, you hear messages with somewhat more clarity. Do you recall times when you were caught up in negativity and could have used some spiritual insight to move you more swiftly into the positive? Have you been given spiritual answers from time to time? Within the dream state, do you often feel you leave the body and have a communion, an opportunity for nurturing and uplifting of the soul?

“Our life is what our thoughts make it.”
~Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121-180)

Effective meditation can help us to become more balanced and centered in our full expression of life’s wondrous gifts, more resilient, more understanding and accepting of other points of view, more compassionate and sympathetic, more intuitive and creative, more responsive to the universal flow of life in which we are immersed.

Interview with Athena Demetrios, author of “The Seasoning of a Soul”

My friend, Athena Demetrios is a professional medium and trance-channel and works with Dr. James Martin Peebles and the I AM Teachings of Saint Germain and other Ascended Masters. I’ve taken this opportunity to ask Athena a few questions about her nonfiction book now available at Amazon, Amazon Kindle, Audio, and at other online bookstores. It is receiving a great reception—and of course, her book is very deserving. The Amazon reviews with five-star ratings show how her memoir is deeply touching readers.

My endorsement on the back cover of her book reads: “The Seasoning of a Soul is a sensitive, inspirational, and fascinating story of life, a look into pain and joy, fear and courage, and the beauty of a soul’s awakening. A must read for those on a spiritual search.” Linda Pendleton, author of To Dance With Angels.

Linda: Athena, what motivated you to share your life story?

Athena: I had a lucid dream once of sitting at a table surrounded by spirit guides and teachers discussing with me the challenges of writing my book. This was around the time I had been introduced to Dr. Peebles in the early eighties through his medium Thomas Jacobson. I had been receiving communications after I would meditate that seemed very ethereal ... not like me. Dr. Peebles confirmed that my desire to write was the beginning of a channeling state in which I was being encouraged to write about my own growth in life and that my need was to become very public in this life. Yikes! That thought alone made me want to run to the hills to hide. Nothing quite as frightening as to hang the ‘ol butt out naked for the world to see. He told me to let it be raw and it is just that. Raw. I also knew that this is something I said I would do in this lifetime and I did not want to make my transition and look back knowing that I backed down out of fear. Another factor was that a complete stranger, a well known psychic approached me in a mall shaking a finger in my face while saying, “You need to be writing ... you could be helping millions of women.” I went home and threw caution to the wind. It was the knowing that my odyssey could be of help to others.

Linda: You and I had a number of conversations about self-publishing. Other than being able to move ahead in the publishing process and not worry about agents, advances, and other publisher problems, why did you choose to put the book out in this way?

Athena: Having worked in the film industry as long as I have I saw advantages to self-publishing for a variety of reasons. State of the art sound recording for the audio version of the book was one consideration, not giving up all the rights was another, but after some research I really didn’t see the advantage of a traditional publisher. I wanted to do my own book cover, etc. ... I am very hands on with graphics. But the bottom line ... my intuition told me to go that route.

Linda: You have a quote on the back of your book, “A spiritual odyssey that will open your heart.” How perfect a description of your book. I doubt anyone can read it without being touched deeply, not only in their heart, but in their soul. You’ve had an incredible journey all these years but it’s not over. What do you see for yourself now in these next chapters of your life?

Athena: It has only been recently that I have been able to see with greater clarity the divine purpose in sharing these experiences and how they relate to my most silent prayer ... to be an inspiration for others. I know what it feels like to be lost in the black hole. I am amazed that readers are commenting how deeply it is touching them. Joy ... that is what I see for myself in the golden years of my life ... and I am a golden girl now ... all 63 years. Speaking to larger venues ... sharing the odyssey, inspiring people to connect their inner strength to their own master within. That brings me joy and I feel such passion about it. I love the light inside of people. I just want to hear, listen and be led by spirit. How great is that?!

One last note here ... When I told Dr. Peebles I finished my manuscript he said, “One of your spirit guides just fainted and another is fanning him awake.” He also commented that they had a great debate on the spirit side whether or not I would finish the book in this life because my resistance was so strong. 70% said I would not. It only took 28 years to write! The greatest pleasure I have had is to say to my guides and teachers ... Oh ye of little faith!

Linda: Thank you, Athena. I’m sure Dr. Peebles and the “gang” are delighted you completed your book as it will inspire many, many people.

Visit Athena Demetrios’ website here and read an excerpt of her book. Also you may like to read an interview I did with Athena not long ago.

Messages from my Angels

Photo © Copyright 2010 by Ted Grussing

At times I receive messages from my angels and guides. My spirit guide, Dr. James Martin Peebles, Elizabeth, a beautiful being of Light, and the “group.” I hear their words clairaudently and each has their personality, so I am able to distinguish from whom the message comes.

Here are a few of their inspirational comments:

“Reach out with love and touch someone.
With that gesture the angels sing,
and the heavens resonate with joy!”

“Sit quietly and wait to hear our words.
They will come.
‘Ask and you shall receive;’
those are still words to live by.
We are here.”

“Angels of light, angels of love,
we are here to dance with you.
Hold our hand, twirl and twirl,
listen to the melody,
sway to the rhythm,
souls in unison,
moving joyfully through the cosmos.”

“Reach out and take the hand of your angel,
and you shall know love.”

“You cannot escape love.
It is the essence of all that is.”

“It is our joy to communicate with you.
We are honored to be able to touch you with love.
Each of you is an angel.
You, too, spread your love
as you share yourself with others.
We exchange healing energy, we give to you,
and, you give to us.
We all come from Love
and return to Love.
But in our sharing,
we find the true meaning of Love.”

Betty Books, Famous Medium, Part One

Famous Mediums

I plan to continue a short series of blogs on various well-known credible mediums from the past. First is:

“Betty”

Some of the most widely read channeled books of the twentieth century were written by Stewart Edward White, a very successful novelist of adventure and Western tales, relating material channeled from the other side by his wife, Elizabeth Calvert Grant White, who was initially identified only as "Betty". Their experiences with the spiritual world began casually in 1919 when some friends visited their home with a Ouija board, considering it a mere toy and hoping only to entertain them with it. One thing led to another, though, and the board began taking on a mind of its own, repeatedly spelling "Betty" even though Betty had become bored with the game and had gone to sit beside the fireplace. At the repeated insistence of the board, she finally rejoined the others. At this point, the board became highly active and repeatedly spelled out, "Get a pencil–Get a pencil." But it was not until some days later that Betty did privately pick up a pencil at home and this launched her first experience with automatic writing which was to last for several months before experimenting with hypnotic trance. This produced the best results and Betty was soon a fully functioning trance medium.

The Betty Book was published in 1937, the third of a series that began in 1925, followed in 1938 by Across the Unknown. Betty died in 1939 and that launched a whole new chapter in this amazing story; Betty began communicating with her husband from the Other Side, through a family friend, psychic Joan Darby (a pseudonym for Ruth Finley, who later, after her death came through Arthur Ford). The Unobstructed Universe is Stewart Edward White's report of the messages from Betty as channeled through Joan.

Within days after my husband, Don Pendleton, passed away, I found a sense of peace in reading the last Chapter of Stewart Edward White’s book, Across the Unknown, about his loss of his wife. I had recalled reading it previously so I pulled it from my bookshelf, and found comfort and a sense of knowing in his Chapter titled, I Bear Witness. I very much identified with his words, his emotion, and his experience of being strongly aware of her presence after her death. White had written of those same feelings I was then experiencing.
I also identified with White for another reason. Stewart Edward White was a best-selling author of Westerns and Adventures, prior to his nonfiction series of Betty Books, ...and in the same way, Don had been a successful novelist for years, Action/Adventure and Mystery, before writing nonfiction about channeling...i.e. our book To Dance With Angels; and the paranormal, our book, Whispers From the Soul: the Divine Dance of Consciousness. It appears Stewart and “Betty” had a strong love bond as Don and I had, and shared interests in metaphysics, spirituality and the paranormal. Synchronistic? I think so.

I do know that at a time of grief, White’s writing was helpful for me. Maybe some of you will find that same inspiration if you are at a difficult time dealing with the loss of a loved one. I also wrote about this in my book, A Walk Through Grief: Crossing the Bridge Between Worlds.
His book, (and the last Chapter mentioned) are now public domain and can be read at the Gutenberg Australia site.

Here is an excerpt from his chapter:

I BEAR WITNESS

1.

FOUR months ago the manuscript of this book was put in final form and sent to the publishers. And so was completed another full turn in the spiral of Betty's work. But not, apparently, the work itself. According to the Invisibles something of this yet remained to be accomplished –something they refused to define, except that it was different from what had gone before.

"Like a blossom," said they.

"A blossom?" Betty asked.

"Something that occurs at the end of effort, as a demonstration to others. It is a natural attribute of your accomplishment. Of course you could go on living as you are, but then you couldn't have the demonstration at the top of your endeavor."

At that time the true meaning of this escaped me altogether. My interpretation was that Betty was about to begin another spiral of instruction, with the difference they mentioned appearing largely in the treatment. Accordingly, when she was overtaken only two weeks later by a serious and rackingly painful illness, I was convinced that the success of the job demanded her recovery. It seemed to me defeat at this point would mean that everything we had built up through all these years, and that so many people had taken from us and believed, would crumble into disrepute. And so I fought with every means at my command to hold her back from the Great Adventure.

Another strong incentive to battle, of course, was our natural dread of separation. I shall not dwell on this, but it is necessary to touch upon it sufficiently. We had been married for thirty-five years. In that time we had been apart for but three periods of any length: twice during my explorations into unknown parts of Central Africa; and once during my service in the World War. We had met together the adventures of life, and they had been varied: years of pack horse travel in the Rockies and Sierra; the cattle ranges of Arizona before the movies came; fourteen months in Africa; sixteen seasons in Alaska--here, there, and everywhere in the wild and tame corners of the earth. And adventures also among people, and ideas, and for twenty years the pioneering in these strange dim regions of the higher consciousness.

In the course of this last exploration we had finally arrived at the settled conviction that permanent separation is impossible. Nevertheless it is only human to dread the temporary parting: to contemplate such an interim as something dismal to be endured. I feel sure that this was a stronger consideration with me than with her. There is always a difference between any conviction, however profound, which is arrived at by study and inference; and the understanding belief which comes of experiencing directly the thing itself. For years Betty had been running back and forth to the other consciousness as easily and naturally as a cat in and out of a house--remember her various essays at experimental dying--whereas I had stayed on the inside only looking out. That she should face her final transition to this consciousness with serenity, then, was only to be expected. And it was equally inevitable that, in spite of any amount of philosophizing, there remained in the depths of my being, essentially unmodified, the primitive fear of death and separation.

Accordingly, I now realize definitely, Betty's strongest incentive in her fight was myself. This was not clear to me then, or my own attitude might have been different. She could not foresee how I would take her going, and she was reluctant to bum her bridges. For over two months it was just this that held her, in spite of the greatest pain and in face of what must have been almost overwhelming temptation.

"I could go so easily!" she told me, "at any minute. I have to fight against it in the night." She asked me a little wistfully, "If it came about that way, you wouldn't mind too much letting me go, would you?"

And I, in my ignorance, replied emphatically:

"I most certainly would!"

Two months passed and she became weaker and weaker, until finally the physical frame was worn to the point where only her fighting spirit held her. By now she could only whisper a word at a time, gathering strength for each effort. In the evening the doctor came to the house. I took him to see her, but was not myself looking toward her, when I heard him exclaim: "My God! The woman still smiles!"

Then for the first time I allowed myself to entertain a doubt as to the wisdom of our persistence. What job could there be that was worth such suffering? A little later Betty closed her eyes. We were not sure whether she was conscious or in coma. I went into another room, sat in an easy chair, and "projected" in her direction as strongly as I could these words:

"You are now where you can decide whether or not the job requires you to stay here and endure this. As far, as I am concerned, I release you gladly. I will take you by the hand, go with you just as far as I can, and place it in the hand of the one who is waiting."

A minute or so later the doctor came to tell me it was over: that suddenly Betty had spoken up, as clearly and gaily as had always been her habit.

"It's all right," said she. "I've had a talk with my boy. You can take me
now."

2.

Now comes the part I almost despair of setting down adequately. But it is the big thing, and I must try. My first momentary reaction was of relief that she need no longer go through such agonies. The next was a faint but growing surprise that the apprehension of death as a dark veil, an impenetrable barrier, a sharp division was whisked away. It became as thin as a mist. Instead of being a big portentous thing, it was really a comparatively unimportant and trivial detail, after all. Then, as the minutes passed, I became literally astounded that all the things I had been dreading, and bracing myself for, simply weren't there. For it was becoming increasingly, most gloriously, evident to me that the only serious threat of death did not exist.

This next is very difficult to convey. Let me see if I can give an inkling.

You know the cozy, intimate feeling of companionship you get sometimes when you are in the same room; perhaps each reading a book; not speaking; not even looking at one another. It is tenuous, an evanescent thing—one that we too often fail to savor and appreciate. Sometimes, in fact, it takes an evening or two of empty solitude to make us realize how substantial and important it really is.

Then, on the other hand, you know how you draw closer by means of things you do together. And still more through talk and such mental interchanges. And most of all, perhaps, in the various physical relationships of love and marriage.

Now when you stop to think of it, all these latter material contacts, right through the whole of life, are at root and in essence aimed at really just one thing: that rare inner feeling of companionship suggested feebly in the sitting-by-the-fire idea. That is what we really are groping for in all friendly and loving human relations, hampered by the fact that we are different people more or less muffled from each other by the barriers of encasement in the body.

Well, within a very few minutes that companionship flooded through my whole being from Betty, but in an intensity and purity of which I had previously had no conception. It was the same thing, but a hundred, a thousand times stronger. And I realized that it more than compensated for the little fact that she had stepped across, because it was the thing that all our physical activities together had striven for, but—compared with this--had gained only dimly and in part. Why not? Actually it was doing perfectly what all these other things had only groped for. So what use the other things? and why should I miss them?

Does this sound fantastic? Maybe; but it is as real and solid as the chair I am sitting on. So much so that I have never in my life been so filled with pure happiness. No despair; no devastation; just a deeper happiness than I have experienced with her ever before, save in the brief moments when everything harmonized in fulfillment.

And furthermore it has lasted, and is with me always.

3.

This, I now believe, is the "great blossom" of which the Invisibles spoke; the final significance to which all of Betty's twenty years of work was to lead. Here is her concrete proof of one reward that can come to those who follow in her footsteps, her final evidence that her instrument of twenty years' forging is strong enough to withstand the
supreme test:

Of course I do not delude myself that those who pursue Betty's teachings to this culmination are going to be able, all of them, to gain this point of view in face of loss. Not all of them, nor completely. But it is a demonstration that it can be done; and it is forerunner of what will, one day, be the universal experience of those who follow the trail she has blazed across the unknown.

Angelic Wisdom

"The more you increase your communication, the more present
you will know the pleasures of Earth." –The grand spirit, Dr. Peebles

Spirit Guide, Dr. James Martin Peebles had this to say about his Second Principle, Increased Communication with all of life everywhere, and with respect, in my book, Three Principles of Angelic Wisdom: The Spiritual Psychology of the Grand Spirit, Dr. Peebles by Linda Pendleton

Excerpt from CHAPTER SIX:
THE SECOND PRINCIPLE, INCREASED COMMUNICATION

Now, within this principle, we speak of increased communication with all of life everywhere. Life is made up of the human, and all the creatures who roam the earth. That includes the birds who sing for you and nibble at your garden; the four-legged animals who you have domesticated, and the ones who roam wild; the insects that you swat away as they buzz around your head; the bountiful vegetation which covers the land; and the many life forms who live in community with you on Planet Earth; and, it includes the Planet Earth, herself. She is alive and vital. All of it deserves respect.

Have you talked to a tree recently and told him how startling and impressive his brightly colored leaves are? Have you told the beautiful wild daisy in the field how beautiful she is? Have you spoken to the fish who swims in the water and told him how sorry you are that you have allowed his fresh water to become polluted? Have you asked the ants who have invaded your kitchen to find their way to the outdoors? Have you blessed the rich soil which allows your garden to produce food for you? Have you smiled at the stranger who passes you on the sidewalk?

Those are a few examples of how you can increase your communication with life.

Respect comes from the heart as does love. With loving allowance for all things to be, in their own time and place, and increasing your communication with respect for all life everywhere, you have incorporated self-responsibility. If you take personal responsibility for your place upon the planet, and understand that you are an integral part of the planet, then how can you not love and respect all of life everywhere and in every form?

That brings us back to the God-essence. If all is of God, including yourself, then communication with God is only natural. And so is communication with one another, each a part of God–and again, a spiritual being. And we, on this side of the veil, are spiritual beings. It is all one gigantic world, and only endures an illusion of separation–separation from God, or man, or spirit. So why would one not expect communication to take place with all within that gigantic world?

Many of us on this side of the veil are eagerly awaiting your communication. We often come to you in your dreams, and we also come to you when you ask for guidance or support in your prayers, meditations or waking state.

When you reach out your hand, we take it in ours and dance the dance of angels. We love to give you an echo, because in that echo you can hear yourselves, you can be energized, and moved in your hearts and souls. It is at that moment that the dance of love begins and within that dance you have declared permission to shout your truths and sing out your songs.

Comparison of Channelings From Spirit Guides, Part One

Truths and Other Truths
A Comparison of Channelings From Spirit Guides
By Linda Pendleton
Part One

Are you among the eighty-two percent of Americans who believe in an afterlife? In recent times, the numbers have been increasing for those who believe they have had communication from a loved one on the Other Side.

And what about angels and spirit guides? Nearly seventy percent of Americans believe in the existence of angels as messengers of God, and nearly half believe they have their own guardian angels or angels. Are you aware of your angel or guide? If so, do you communicate or receive signs from them?

It would seem the religious/spiritual instinct is innate within humankind, as though a template for the experience had been programmed into our genetic structures that govern human expression. Within the innate religious or spiritual instinct are experiences that might be classified as miraculous. But, are many of the events or experiences actually miracles or no more than ordinary occurrences?

Reports of extraordinary and astonishing events attributed to a supreme being or a divine power will be found in virtually every world religion, every culture, and probably within every human mind from primitive times right up into the modern age. Many cultures do not regard miracles or paranormal events as anything extraordinary but merely the natural workings of a natural world. Most cultures who share that idea have well-formulated spiritual beliefs that have been carried forward from generation to generation, throughout history, and many of these cultures have evolved highly sophisticated belief systems.

When one reads the history of cultures, it is very apparent that there has always been a “knowing” within mankind that evolves into understandings that we are, indeed, spiritual beings and that life does not end with the death of the physical body. Mankind has always looked to the heavens in a search for answers. I have often wondered why that is and the answer I have come up with is, no matter our religious upbringing or belief system, we have an innate knowledge within, a knowledge that we are much more than a physical body having a life experience. We are temporarily using a physical body for an ongoing spiritual life.

So in taking those ideas of an innate spiritual connection it should appear absolutely normal for one to have communication with the Other Side, with angels, spirit guides, and loved ones who have left this physical dimension.

Channeling spirit is the receiving of messages from the Other Side – the spirit world, through the various classic psychic avenues such has mediumship, trance-channeling, clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and intuition. The receiver is an open line, a conduit, similar to what one could consider an open telephone line or radio receiver. Although channeling or mediumship has always been with us, in recent years it has gained more attention through various movies, literature, and television shows, featuring psychic mediums such as John Edward, James Van Praagh, Char Margolis, Rosemary Altea, and others.

Shirley MacLaine was one who helped to get the idea of mediumship, past lives, and even UFO phenomena out of the “psychic closet” and into the mainstream with her book, Out On a Limb, the resulting movie and other books, and her many television appearances. Even though there were often overdone jokes about her spiritual experiences, it did open the “closet” door, and for many, it was a “new” look at what was possible—and within the norm of the human experience.

We all have intuition, and for some it is more pronounced, such as it might be with the aforementioned psychic mediums. But all of us have the capability of communicating in various ways with those on the Other Side. Sometimes, all it takes is trusting in our intuition and being open to the possibility of contact.

I’ve put together a collection of quotations from various spirit guides through their channels/mediums. It is very noticeable how they “ring” of similar ideas, wisdom, and truths.
Probably of these listed spirit guides or the mediums who work with them, it would be Edgar Cayce who probably stands out as the most profound and the “clearest connection” to information coming from the Other Side.

I have noticed that many people either began or enhanced their spiritual journey by reading the fascinating story of Edgar Cayce and his psychic gift, There is a River, The Story of Edgar Cayce written by Thomas Sugrue, and published more than sixty years ago.

Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D., best-selling author and frequent guest on Oprah, had this to say about Cayce: "The story of Edgar Cayce has inspired me from the time I was 12 years old. As one of the first well-studied medical intuitives, his work and his life helped blaze the path for the future of medicine."

Not only did he blaze the path of future medicine, but he gave understanding and acceptance of mediumship, and also of reincarnation, as his readings focused very much on past lives. And with his work in that area, and several other books written about him, he awakened America to reincarnationist thought.

Part Two

“The Three Principles: Loving Allowance for all things to be in their own time and place, beginning with yourself. Increased Communication with all of life everywhere and with respect. Self Responsibility, for you are the eternal creator, never the victim.” –Spirit Guide, Dr. Peebles

"For, each soul enters with a mission . . . we all have a mission to perform.” –Mediumship of Edgar Cayce

“Each of us has the opportunity to consciously decide who we wish to become as well as how long it's going to take us to get there.”–Mediumship of Edgar Cayce

“Mankind is growing beyond many of its leaders in willingness to find alternate solutions, alternates to war that is. Meaningful understanding between polarized religious systems and compassion has become imperative. And, bridges between the modern world and the third world countries must be built: in education, technology, science, delegating food sharing without (economic) financial motivation, and finally medical sharing that is sincerely caring for one's fellow man.” –Spirit Guide Gilgamesh of the Understanding Ones, Shawn Randall

"A journey into the NEW is always a journey into more of YOU."–Spirit Guide Torah, Shawn Randall

"Process is simply the amount of time for some reason you deem it necessary to take until you finally give yourself permission to see the obvious." –Spirit Guide Bashar, Darryl Anka

“Create the effect of being happy, and you will attract into your lives all of the causes to support the happiness you have created...just because you want to. And just because you say so. Because you are the creators of your reality, there doesn’t need to be any other why or how. What you say goes!” –Spirit Guide Bashar, Darryl Anka

“You have free will, and you can create any reality you desire; that is being made in the image of God. Act as such and you will have heaven on your Earth–guaranteed.” –Spirit Guide Bashar, Darryl Anka

“Nothing can match or even come near the miracle of who you truly are. Let this be the mantra of your life. A Being of Indescribable wonder has, has again, become a bearer of the Light on Earth. Let nothing dissuade you from this truth.” –Spirit Guide Emmanuel, Pat Rodegast

“Come home to your Selves. The journey is no more than a breath in time, no more than a heartbeat in distance.” –Spirit Guide Emmanuel, Pat Rodegast

“Every moment of your life you are offered the opportunity to choose–love or fear, to tread the earth or to soar the heavens.” –Spirit Guide Emmanuel, Pat Rodegast

"You must learn to listen to the voice of the inner self and work with it." –Spirit Guide Seth, Jane Roberts

"You create your reality according to your beliefs and expectations, therefore you should examine these carefully. If you do not like some aspect of your world, then examine your own expectations." –Spirit Guide Seth, Jane Roberts

“Choice is focused intent, and as such, it is critical to changing intent and thus the function and form of energy. It is critical to changing action and image. Choice is essential to all learning.” –Spirit Guide Lazaris, Jach Pursel

“In order to understand that you carry with you only an illusion of separation, to reach that spiritual truth, you have to first allow yourself to love God and then to love yourself. Only then, when you are comfortable with the truth of that love, can you then reach out to life around you.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Linda Pendleton

“Never be afraid. The greatest enemy of humanity is fear. Be confident in the love and wisdom of God, and remember if you go into shadow, darkness will not touch you if you are radiating light.” –Spirit Guide White Eagle, Grace Cooke

“Three things: You ask; the Universe gives; you let in. That's all there is to it. And if you're not living it, it's not because you're not asking. You are. And it's not because the Universe is not yielding. It is. It's because you are not in the receiving mode.” –Spirit Guide Abraham, Esther Hicks

“We are here to remind you that pain and fear are not the only methods of growth; that you can more elegantly grow through joy and love. . . that you can create your own reality . . . that there is a God/Goddess/All That Is who loves you, who knows your name. . . and that you love good enough.” –Spirit Guide Lazaris, Jach Pursel

“No longer technicians, you are the masterful magicians of the current and future age, the masterful magicians of the mysteries and the mysticism. And this is the dawning of your day. It is time to find your voice and then to lift that voice, heroic, lyrical, or celestial, so that you can be heard...so that your world can hear you. It is time to rise to the new dawn. Oh, we love you; we love you so.” –Spirit Guide Lazaris, Jach Pursel

“Humanity is gradually moving beyond the narrow concept of isolationism and secular ‘religion’ into the expanded and cohesive truth of spirituality whereby you turn inward and connect to your own Divine Source for Creator truth and universal laws to guide you, instead of turning to someone you think is more knowledgeable and powerful than you.” –Archangel Michael, Ronna Herman

“What gives you your Divine essence is that you have the freedom to embrace and experience whatever thoughts you desire. And that divine essence, called free will, is love. It is the gift of love from God to each of you. Each of you has the divine essence of will so that you have the freedom to create uniquely whatever ideal you envision through thought.” –Spirit Guide Ramatha, J.Z. Knight

“You did not come to earth to become perfect. You came to the earth to stop condemning yourself for not being perfect.”–Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Athena Demetrios

“There's no higher energy or power on Earth than you. There's no higher power or energy in the Universe than what exists and flows through you in a divine way.” –Spirit Guide Kryon, Lee Carroll

“You are never separate dear ones from the source of love, abundance, and joy. It is an illusion that you could ever be separated from your angels or God. You are like drops of water in an ocean, part of something so much greater and yet individual as well.” –The Angels, Ann Albers

“If one believes that he alone creates his life, all his experiences, his thoughts, his actions—and reactions—and takes full responsibility for that, then he can never be a victim. Fear, resentment, anger and hate fall away like the petals of a daisy caught up in the wind.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Linda Pendleton

“The entire universe is a loving and living experience of divine thought...a fabric that is intermeshed with all things.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Thomas Jacobson, To Dance With Angels by Don and Linda Pendleton

“Allow your fear, if only for a moment. Acknowledge the fear that the terrorists have created in you, and move through it, and then let it go, and know that there is nothing to fear. As you move within your own mind, and move to understand that separation is the factor that motivates fear, then you can recognize that you are never alone, and are never the victim, unless you choose to be a victim.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Linda Pendleton

“As you welcome change, as the creator that you are, you have the ability to move with that change in whatever way you wish. If you deny it, you will have pain. You will feel victimized, helpless. But if you embrace it then you have the opportunity to have a creative dance with it. And in that creative dance you can mold it, fashion it, to your own liking. If you want it to be an opportunity for new experiences, so be it. If you want it to be adventurous, so be it. If you want it to be mysterious, so be it. And if you want it to be denied, so be it. It is your ballet slippers that move across the stage, it is your melody that is strummed on the musical instruments, and it is your audience who experiences your song and dance. You are the choreographer, the composer, the arranger, the director. It is your show and you decide how you want to present it. But might I suggest, dear friends, that you hold no expectations of how others will receive it—just present it with an open mind and loving heart. And present it with joy!” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Linda Pendleton

“Peace and healing will come when you take action to diminish the illusion of separation within the self. Only then.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Linda Pendleton

“Find something to feel good about and get out of the way, and allow the cells to receive what they’ve been asking for. That is the key to healing.” –Spirit Guide Abraham, Esther Hicks

“You can’t fill up anyone else’s cup until yours is runneth over.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Summer Bacon

“You are spirit. The real you, the consciousness, is spirit. As you strengthen this realization through meditation and worship of your Creator your spirit will begin to dominate the physical atoms, until your body becomes irradiated with life, and every particle obeys the direction of spirit, the real you.” –Spirit Guide White Eagle, Grace Cook

“You are Beings who intend to come forth and to continue to expand and grow and change. What is the perfect age? “Well, it is the age where I finally understand my freedom, and I finally understand that I am free to create, and it’s the age that I am at my most beautiful.’ And we say, by whose standard? In other words, who gets to decide the perfect age? And we say, rather than determining what the perfect age is, why not decide what the perfect state of being is–and then discover that you can find the perfect state of being at any age.” –Spirit Guide Abraham, Esther Hicks

“Pain is a divine messenger. Your soul calls upon pain to help you locate your resistance to this and to that.” –Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, Athena Demetrios

"Your thoughts are powerful creators, and your words are even more powerful than your thoughts, but your actions are more powerful than your words or your thoughts." –Spirit Guide Abraham, Esther Hicks

“To increase your connection to your guide, you can consciously think of your guide or your guide’s name. You need not do more that [than] this to bring your guide’s light and love to you. You can also learn to call in your guide for brief moments by closing your eyes and asking for guidance and getting simple yes or no impressions instantly. You can do this whether you are standing in the grocery store line, driving your car or walking down the street. You can bring the essence of your connection to your guide through at any given time for however long you want–be it thirty seconds or three minutes. This type of connection does not need to be a lengthy one.” –Spirit Guides Orin and DaBen, Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer

“Every decision you make—every decision—is not a decision about what to do. It’s about Who You Are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do.” –Spirit Guide “God,” Neale Donald Walsch

“Death is only passing through God's other door.”–Edgar Cayce
"There is no death, there is only change." Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles

Co-Creation, The Vibrational Energy of Life

Dr. James Martin Peebles (1822-1922), now a spirit guide, gives us his spiritual psychology and within his teachings are these very important Three Spiritual Principles.

“If one believes that he alone creates his life, all his experiences, his thoughts, his actions–and reactions–and takes full responsibility for that, then he can never be a victim. Fear, resentment, anger and hate fall away like the petals of a daisy caught up in the wind. Love begets love. And love begins within self. The illusion of separation dissipates, intimacy prevails, and the creative force of self shines.”

Puppy Dogs and Angels

“Your tears show that you care, under any circumstance, and to hold back your tears is to hold back your love from life.”
~ Spirit Guide Dr. Peebles, channeled by Summer Bacon, 2009

A few years ago not long after my husband Don Pendleton had passed away, I decided I needed to have a dog. I took a couple of trips to the Sedona Humane Society but did not find a dog I wanted to take home. Then I saw an ad for Australian Shepard puppies.

You know how are puppies are. You fall in love with them even if it might not be an ideal breed. But I fell for her and she was eight weeks old when I brought her home. I named her Misty, bought toys for her, and a good sized carrier for nighttime or when I had to
leave the house.

I soon found a trainer--actually three trainers all together. The first one, who primarily dealt with training German Shepards, I did not care for her roughness and attitude. Then the second trainer dealt in “touch training” (sounded more New Age LOL ) and she gave up working with Misty after only about three lessons. So the third trainer was excellent and she had worked with animals and birds at San Diego Animal Park. She and Misty got along just great. But give me the leash and it was a different matter. Misty was very smart and would have made an excellent obedience show dog, but not with me. She wanted to herd, constantly, and it was usually me she herded, nipping at my legs and feet every move I made. So in a few short months, I had to find her a new home. She found a happy home on a cattle ranch in Tucson and last I heard she was thrilled to be able to herd cattle all day long.

When I decided I had to give her up, I cried, and it stirred my grief issues, which were still raw and painful at times. One evening just before I gave her away, I was out in the backyard with her. We had a rock area and I was standing near it looking at the rocks on the ground.

Then I heard these words, “you need to paint angels on the rocks.” I was reminded of the pet rock craze in the 1960s when you’d see the funny faces or bugs, etc, on small rocks. So I found the best rocks I could, cleaned them up, and after saying goodbye to Misty the next day, I got out my oil paints and began painting angels. Not long after I sold a few at one of our local art shows.

The angels were exactly what I need to heal the sadness I was feeling, not only about Misty, but about Don. And in a small way, I found joy and a sense of purpose.

I always love dancing with the angels.

Spirit Communication, Past Lives

In 1860, Dr. James Martin Peebles (1822-1922) wrote, “Invocations to spirits, angels, God, when bubbling up spontaneously from the inner depths, are vitalizing and strengthening to the divine forces of the soul.”

James Martin Peebles, about 45 years of age.

I believe my recent Poll results are rather interesting, and about what I thought they would be.
84 % believe in Past Lives. 9% believed it to be unlikely.
27% have seen a UFO, while 17% believe they may have, but 55% have not.
65% believe there is a UFO government cover-up and only 10% said no.

And these answers to this question really brought a smile to me. Have you ever had a message from:
An Angel? 50%
A Deceased Loved One? 64%
A Spirit Guide? 50%
An Extraterrestrial? 7%

Now I suppose many who visit my Blog do so because they have an interest in spirituality and spiritual ideas, but I am happy to see that people are listening to the whispers of love coming from their angels, guides, and maybe most importantly for healing of grief, from a loved one.

Those messages from loved ones may bring a lot of comfort, even years after a loss. I always feel it gives validation to the fact that consciousness lives on after the shedding of the physical body. And also is a reminder that love does not die but lives on.

For those of us who do believe in past lives, we probably realize that we may have been of the opposite sex in another life time, even time and again. That idea often makes me think about those who are homophobic or so against the opposite sex in some way. Is it about fear? Maybe memories that are in the recesses of their mind that might bring forward fear of a past life situation, or fear that they may be of that sexual persuasion again.

Today, Dr. Peebles is a spirit guide to many. Almost twenty years ago, he had spoken to us during a channeling about the coming increase in contact with the spirit world. He said more and more people would be having experiences which would validate the existence of spirit. He said that communication with the Other Side would become a normal, acceptable way of every day life and that what he refers to as the “illusion of separation” would become thinner—in other words, the veil between worlds would become more transparent. And in that transparency one would recognize his or her connection not only to God or the Source, but to each other as spiritual beings.

I believe that is happening. I have spoken with many people who have had mystical experiences. One cannot help but notice the upsurge in the hunger for spiritual connection and even spiritual material. And that is often being filled by the publication of many successful books, movies, and television shows on spiritual subjects, everything from angels, miracles, near-death experiences, mediumship and the body/mind/soul connection.

Dr. James Martin Peebles, in his terrestrial life, was a clergyman, doctor, author, and a leading Spiritualist who traveled all around the United States and the world on lecture tours, and was himself a medium. He was surrounded all of his life by what he referred to as his “band of angels,” a group of spirit entities on the Other Side that he was often in communication with.

As I wrote in my book, Three Principles of Angelic Wisdom, “The mighty hand of James Martin Peebles penned his fast-held beliefs and his indignation with the idea that spirit communication should cease because some church mind said it should be so. He wrote, "Spiritual beings are daily and nightly descending to communicate with, and minister to, their mortal brothers," an axiom he still holds [today as a spirit guide].

“He also had insight into the ever-present search for spiritual understanding when he wrote, ‘Humanity is pleading, yearning for knowledge. Inquirers are still asking, 'If a man dies shall he live again? And if he live why may we not know it?' And the search for knowledge goes on.”

And in my own search, last night I attended a healing/prayer circle at a nearby Spiritualist Church. The medium who was leading the small circle connected with my Dad. I knew almost as soon as she began giving his physical description it was Daddy. Two things she said about him, actually three, told me for sure it was him. I wasn’t really expecting him but then again I should have known he would be there as I had called on him and my late husband, Don three weeks ago when my mother was in the hospital with a mild heart attack. My sister told me she was in extreme pain and the morphine was not touching it after four hours or more, and her breathing had become very labored. I asked Daddy and Don to go to her and help her with her pain. Forty-five minutes later I received a call from my sister, who was with her, and she told me Mama was resting comfortably and peacefully.

Daddy’s been gone thirty years. My mother is 90 years old. I told Mama today about Daddy’s visit, and also told her about her night at the hospital, and she had no memory of being in that much pain, and she was happy to know Daddy was around. I was happy, too, but not surprised. He’s always been close by. And so is Don.

What the heck, we are all spirits, if we only remember that! Here or there on the Other Side, it matters not.

“The greatest illusion is that you are alone; never are you alone.” ~The Spirit, Dr. Peebles.

Spirit Communication, Life After Death and the Other Side

John Edward is a gifted psychic medium. I believe he has done so much for increasing the acceptance and understanding of spirit communication with those on the Other Side.

His books, One Last Time, Crossing Over, After Life, are excellent. For me, I first want to know how the psychic gift came about or was enhanced, and I am drawn to books which reveal that, such as John’s. The latest one I read was Lisa Williams’ book, Life Among the Dead. She’s an excellent medium, also.

One thing I have liked so much about John Edward is his humor. He is able to laugh at himself, laugh at the interpretation of the symbol he receives, and lighten up what can often be heavy with grief, sadness, and pain. He has said, “Information comes through to me in 3 basic ways seen, hearing, and feeling the energy of the person that's crossed over. In which it is a symbolic type of language.”

I believe his humor allows people to be more comfortable, instead of being uptight or nervous while knowing he talks with dead people.

Ho often mentions “psychic amnesia,” the inability to recall during a reading a person, a name, an event, that is very much a part of you. I had that happen, at least to a small degree, when I had an on-the-air telephone reading with psychic Cher Margolis (another good one) a few years ago when she appeared on the CNBC Show The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. I was so nervous that my mind went blank for a moment over a name but I quickly recovered.

You would think I would not be nervous because I do, myself, communicate with spirit clairaudiently, mainly with Dr. James Martin Peebles, and my late husband, Don Pendleton, and a couple spirit guide/angels here and there. But when in the situation of a reading, with a medium bringing me the messages, I am still in awe when it happens.

No matter how the messages come to us from the Other Side, through mediumship, dreams, intuition, apparitions, however, it is comforting, reassuring, and confirms that consciousness and love live on. And I have come to believe that consciousness does go on after the shedding of the physical body. Without a doubt.

And obviously, I am far from alone in that belief.

Here is one example how others believe. John Edward has a survey on the website for his TV show, Cross Country, on the WE Network. (His show is on Saturday Nights).

98.6 % Believe in life after death. (over 40,150 respondents).

96.1% Believe in communication with those who have died. (over 13,000 respondents).

97.3 % Believe we reconnect with loved ones when we pass. (13,500).

69.6 % Have experienced communication with the Other Side. (12,800).

58.6 % Received communication through dreams while 21% received communication with apparitions. (9,900).

97.9 % Believe the soul lives on. (11,900).

92.9 % Plan on communicating with someone when you pass, but 76.5 % have not made a pact regarding the message or sign they will send. (11,655).

85.4 % Think a belief in afterlife makes the process of dying easier. (over 13,300 respondents).

Those are encouraging numbers.

Tuning Into Your Intuition

Intuition is defined as the ability to perceive or know things without conscious reasoning, immediate apprehension or understanding. It is your inner voice, or psychic awareness, your spontaneous knowing.

Our intuition is innate and a natural part of our lives. But many of us ignore, block, deny, or simply do not tap into this valuable resource. But why would we do this with a resource that can be used to help us heal, solve problems, and make spiritual contact with deceased loved ones, angels, or spirit guides?

Dr. Judith Orloff, a psychiatrist, author, and an intuitive, shares this short video:
