Evidence of the Afterlife, Dr. Jeffrey Long

Are you among the 82 percent of Americans who believe in the afterlife?
Dr. Jeffrey Long, along with his wife Jody, have gathered more than 1600 Near Death Experiences for his Near Death Experience Research Foundation. Dr. Long is a radiation oncologist and has recently published a book Evidence of the Afterlife written with best-selling author, Paul Perry. (see my post about Paul Perry and his upcoming book with Dr. Raymond Moody).

At the moment as I write this, Dr. Long is a guest on the Coast to Coast AM Radio show with George Noory. He just mentioned that he had interviewed a couple recently who had a joint near-death experience during an automobile accident—both hovering above the car crash and holding hands. I’ve never thought about that type of situation before, but I assume it could happen fairly often.

In the video interview below he mentions a woman blind since birth who had a near-death experience during surgery and was hovering in the operating room.... This has been known to happen often.

One of my favorite NDEs is one we wrote about in Whispers From the Soul:

“A most remarkable case involves a surgical patient who went into cardiac arrest during her surgery, as reported by Internist Larry Dossey in his book, Recovering The Soul: A Scientific and Spiritual Search. During gall bladder surgery, the patient's heart stopped beating and heroic measures were employed to stabilize her. Dr. Dossey explains that Sarah had a clear and detailed memory of the frantic conversation of the surgeons and nurses during her cardiac arrest; knew the OR layout; recounted the scribbles on the surgery schedule board in the hall outside the operating room; identified the color of the sheets covering the operating table and the hairstyle of the head scrub nurse; the names of the surgeons in the doctors' lounge down the corridor who were waiting for her case to be concluded and she even knew the trivial fact that her anesthesiologist that day was wearing unmatched socks. She knew all this even though she had been fully anesthetized and unconscious during the surgery and the cardiac arrest.
But Dr. Dossey tells us that what made Sarah's vision even more momentous was the fact that, since birth, she had been blind.
Anesthetized, unconscious and blind–still, she saw!”

Dr. Long just stated that he absolutely believes in an afterlife. He’s not alone in that. Many of us do. And I get excited every time I hear or read of another professional, who due to research, studies, or experiences, lend more credibility to the fact that life does not end with the shedding of the physical body.

A number of years ago a Gallop Poll revealed some eight million Americans, including many children, have reported near-death experiences. So the numbers have to be extraordinary worldwide.

You can read an excerpt from Dr. Jeffrey Long’s book here.

I listened to this coast to coast show too. I love these sorts of accounts, especially of the blind being able to see...Absolutely wonderful. I have read a few books on the subject matter too, including books where hypnotists even regress people to their past lives just before death and have them go through the white tunnel to the other side to describe the way life is between lives.

Sir
I have seen in your news paper dated 24-1-2010 a report on a book Evidence of the After Life by Dr. Jeffrey Long. These findings establishes the correctness of Hindu Mythology on Rebirth and Reincarnation. I have also some views on this topic as below:
In Bhagavad-Gita Lord SriKrishna says to Arjuna:

“I taught this immortal Yoga to Vivasvan (sun-god), Vivasvan conveyed it to Manu(his son), and Manu imparted it to (his son) Iksvaku. Thus transmitted to succession from father to son, Arjuna, this Yoga remained known to the Rajarisis (royal sages). It has however long since disappeared from this earth. The same ancient Yoga has this day been imparted to you by Me, because you are My devotee and friend, and also because this is a supreme secret”.
At this Arjuna said: You are of recent origin while the birth of Vivasvan dates back to remote antiquity. How, then, I am to believe that you taught this Yoga at the beginning of creation? Lord SriKrishna said: Arjuna, you and I have passed through many births. I remember them all, you do not remember.
1. Radha Soami Faith was founded by His Holiness Param Purush Puran Dhani Huzur Soamiji Maharaj on the prayer of His Holiness Huzur Maharaj who later on became second Spiritual Head of Radha Soami Faith. The prime object of the Radha Soami Faith is the emancipation of all Jeevas (Souls) i.e. to take the entire force of consciousness to its original abode. There is a tradition of succession of Gurus or Spiritual Adepts in Radha Soami Faith. I am one of them as is evident from the following facts or ….
“My most Revered Guru of my previous life His Holiness Maharaj Sahab, 3rd Spiritual Head of Radhasoami Faith had revealed this secret to me during trance like state.
HE told me, “Tum Sarkar Sahab Ho” (You are Sarkar Sahab). Sarkar Sahab was one of the most beloved disciple of His Holiness Maharj Sahab. Sarkar Sahab later on became Fourth Spiritual Head of Radhasoami Faith.
Since I don’t have any direct realization of it so I can not claim the extent of its correctness. But it seems to be correct. During my previous birth I wanted to sing the song of ‘Infinite’ (Agam Geet yeh gawan chahoon tumhri mauj nihara, mauj hoi to satguru soami karoon supanth vichara) but I could not do so then since I had to leave the mortal frame at a very early age. But through the unbounded Grace and Mercy of my most Revered Guru that desire of my past birth is being fulfilled now.”

I am so glad you posted this on your blog. I was anxious to see this when they announced it on the Today show. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work and missed it. I have taken care of two terminally ill loved ones in my life and both were busy, busy, busy working and communicating with the other side. Some of what they said and experienced revealed it's meaning to me months after they were gone. There is definitely life after death.
